Hello,

I have this error code when the excavator is not running.

How to troubleshoot this since the excavator seems to work fine otherwise.

Thanks

Code 118 on a JCB JZ140 typically indicates that there's an issue with the hydraulic pump solenoid circuit being open. This often pops up when the engine is off. If everything else seems to be functioning correctly, it's likely an electrical problem rather than an issue with the pump itself.

I'd suggest taking a look at the wiring and connectors at the solenoid to check for any loose pins, corrosion, or damage. It's also a good idea to test the solenoid coil with a multimeter, you should expect to see a few ohms. If it shows an open reading, that probably means the coil is faulty.

Hi and thanks for the tips

The issue was caused by broken wire. I replaced 30 cm of wire close to the solenoid and excavator restored its original state.

When circuit was open there was lack of power. Now all works perfectly!

Cheers!

Amazing how a small section of wire can cause such a big issue. Thanks for sharing the fix. definitely one to keep in mind for future troubleshooting.

The error code 118 on your JCB JZ140 specifically relates to an "open circuit" in the hydraulic pump's proportional valve. The fact that the excavator works fine when the engine is running means that the fault is not a critical issue that would prevent machine operation. Instead, it's indicating that it can't detect a proper electrical circuit to the valve's solenoid.

Since the machine is working fine, the issue is likely minor. It's probably a marginal connection or a solenoid that is about to fail. While it's not preventing you from working, you have to address it before it becomes a more serious problem.
