I’ve had my back how for a few months. So far I’ve ‘repacked’ 3 cylinders. 1st one I damaged the piston seal when I shoved it back into the casing. I didn’t kno I was supposed to use a piston ring compressor in order to help shrink the seal to proper size. That was my front left bucket tilt cylinder. since then I’ve repacked the the front right bucket tilt cylinder. That time I used a heavy duty tie wrap and a tie wrap tightener and left it on for a couple hours and that made all the difference in the world. My most recent venture was repacking the cylinder on the back arm of the machine. Which one? The boom up and boom down one. The one that’s hidden inside of the arm of the back hoe. Im sure most of you kno the entire cylinder must come out. I did it by myself with no hoist. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ATTEMPTING THIS. I’m lucky to still have all my fingers. I later found out my specific cylinder is close to 250 lbs. I’m about to repack another cylinder on the back arm. Not the boom, not the dipper, the furthest one out that curls the bucket in. I’m tired of fighting with seals. Can anybody recommend an aftermarket kit that comes with the seal twisters and also the smooth spoon like tools that assist in getting the seals that wrap around the piston installed. I’ve spent so much money on this thing my brain is starting to short circuit. I kno you usually get what you pay for but I’m looking for a kit that’s doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg. Has anybody purchased a fairly cheap kit that ended up working well? Or has anybody made the tools themselves?
