JCB telehandler steering

I have a jcb telehandler which had a steering issue with the back wheels not tracking with the front ones. It had a leaking steering ram so I put a new one on and a new steering sensor on the back and it has worked fine for a couple of months but has now started doing it again. Rams all fine and sensor still there and clean. Any ideas please

Most of the time, an issue like this isn't with the rams or sensors themselves.. but a glitch in the electronics telling them what to do. The first thing I'd check is the steering mode selection switch. Try to reset it by cycling through the modes a few times, from 2-wheel to 4-wheel and crab steer. If that doesn't do it, I'd be looking at the calibration again. It can drift a bit even with a new sensor. You'll need the service manual or someone with a laptop to re-calibrate it properly. It could be a dodgy wire or connection to the sensor as well, so that's worth a quick check for any damage. Hope you get it sorted!

It’s also a good idea to look at the hydraulic pressure levels. If the pressure is too low or inconsistent, it could lead to tracking problems, even if the components themselves are in good shape.

Take a look at the steering controller module for any fault codes and make sure the power supply voltage is stable. Check the wiring harness for any signs of chafing or corrosion between the sensor and the ECU. Also ensure that the steering proportional valve is functioning properly, if it’s sticking it can lead to erratic tracking, even if the sensors and rams are in good shape.
