JCB diagnostics or old-school eyeballing?

When you're out with a JCB and something doesn't seem quite right, do you reach for the diagnostics tool first, or do you prefer to take a good old-fashioned walk-around and inspect it visually?

I'm curious to know which method you trust more and why.
