When the gears start to ghost

You’re in your JCB, pushing into a pile. The throttle’s up, but it feels like the machine is losing its grip, and the revs are climbing. Before you do something major, what quick checks, oil tests, or pressure readings have you found useful for confirming a slipping transmission?

Man, my old 214 used to do that same thing revving but not moving at all. I thought the transmission was shot. Turns out it was just low charge pressure and a clogged screen. A quick gauge check saved me from tearing the machine apart for no good reason.

Yeah, I know that mushy push all too well. My JCB would roar like it was ready to go but barely managed to move a pile. It turned out the oil was burnt, and the suction strainer was nearly blocked. A simple pressure test cleared that up fast.

Had a 3CX behave just like that, revving up while slipping around like it was on ice. Checked the clutch pressures and found one pack was really low. That saved me from swapping out pumps without knowing what was wrong. A cheap gauge does the trick better than guessing
