You fire up the machine, the GPS is on and you’re just watching those RTK bars crawl while the job is on pause. We’ve all been there staring at that screen in anticipation. Let’s share some tips be it tweaks, settings, antenna tricks, or habits that can help you lock in faster.

I used to think the satellites were the problem, but it turns out it was my setup all along.
By clearing the roof cleaning the connectors and powering up early, I’ve made RTK way faster.
Now I lock in before I even climb back into the cab no more staring contests with the screen!

One day, I raised the antenna just two feet, and suddenly RTK stopped being so stubborn. Now, I also check the firmware and the base station signal before I get started. It’s amazing how those small details can make a huge difference when you’re watching those bars slowly creep across the screen

After missing out on a perfect weather window because RTK was slow, I decided to switch up my routine.
I make sure to park where I have a clear view of the sky, reboot the receiver, and let it warm up while I get everything else ready.
It might seem a bit silly, but those habits really cut down on lock time.

I’ve spent way too many mornings nursing cold coffee while waiting for RTK to wake up. Now I kick things off by powering the GPS first letting it connect with the satellites before I start the machine. Raising the antenna and clearing any obstructions made a big difference. Those little adjustments have saved me precious minutes on every startup.
