You’re down there crawling under the machine with a flashlight, knowing something’s wearing out, but the mud makes it all look equally awful. What’s your game plan for checking the wear on tracks, rollers, and idlers in the field? Do you rely on measurements, visual cues, or wiggle tests?

I grab a pry bar. If I can lift a track shoe off the front idler by more than an inch, that adjuster spring is toast. It's that straightforward.

I keep a gauge handy for the rollers, but honestly, I mainly rely on my ears.
A grinding noise or a sharp whine usually means a bearing's failing.

I also run my hand along the inside of the track.
You can catch sharp edges on the pins or spots missing lube
that you wouldn't see just by looking.

Great, real-world checks, a simple pry bar to identify a worn-out adjuster, and getting a hands-on sense of any sharp pins or dry spots. These quick and straightforward methods can help you catch undercarriage wear before it leads to a costly surprise.
