My chassis tank is full of rust and crud, really a total nightmare to clean. thinking about bypassing it with a 25L jerry can
I’d braze a tap for the lift pump and drill a hole for the injector return line.
has anyone tried this? Will it work or am I asking for trouble?

Yeah, I've seen folks try those quick fixes, but honestly, it always seems to cause more trouble than it's worth. Just cleaning or getting a new tank is usually the better way to go in the long run.

yep, it’ll work. but I can tell you that mounting height is everything
if you put the jerry can lower than the lift pump, that pump has to work twice as hard to pull fuel, and you'll end up with air bubbles
try to mount the can at or above the level of the pump. also, make sure your tap has a pickup tube that reaches the bottom of the can
don't just pull from a bottom drain, or you'll be feeding the engine every bit of sediment that settles in the can

Thanks for breaking that down. The tips on mounting height and the pickup tube are incredibly useful. That’s precisely the kind of practical insight I was looking for.
