JCB 3CX 14 limp mode issue

I have a little issue with my JCB 3CX-14. I was clearing snow the other day, and the DEF light came on and it went into limp mode before I could get back to the shop.

This happened about six months ago, and I was told the DEF was old so I just changed the fluid and it's been fine ever since.
The machine doesn't get used much, but it's back to acting up. I'm wondering if changing the DEF filter and the little breather on top would make a difference?
How long can DEF fluid sit in the tank before it goes bad, especially since I don't use the machine all the time?

For your JCB 3CX-14, it's important to keep an eye on the Diesel Exhaust Fluid, as it can break down over time, particularly if the machine isn't used often. Old DEF can degrade in a few months if it’s exposed to heat or sunlight and once it crystallizes it can trigger limp mode even if the filter is new, so draining and refilling with fresh fluid is usually the first step before chasing sensors. Have you had a chance to pull any fault codes from the ECU to confirm whether it’s only DEF quality being flagged or if the dosing module is also logging errors?
