JCB 1400B ignition switch problem

I've got an ignition problem I think with my JCB 1400B. Turning the key doesn't do anything, like literally no power or response. The only way I can get it to fire up right now is by jumping the solenoid directly but thats not exactly a longterm solution, so I'm looking to track down the real issue.
What can I do about this?

Sounds like your ignition switch is toast. Before replacing it, check the basics.... fuses, wiring to the switch, and make sure you've actually got power coming in. If jumping the solenoid works every time, the switch or the wiring feeding it is the weak link.

My brother had a similar issue last year. He also has a 1400B and yep, it turned out to be a bad ignition switch. You might also want to check the fuse panel and look for any loose or corroded connections at the starter relay. Are you getting power to the dash lights when you turn the key or is it completely dead?

Also, see if the neutral safety switch is okay. If it's off or messed up, it could stop the car from starting. Try checking the voltage at the solenoid trigger wire when you turn the key too.

Great tips all around! I’d also recommend checking the ground connections and battery terminals. A weak or corroded ground can sometimes act like a dead ignition switch, leading to those frustrating no-power symptoms.
