525B stuck shuttle lever

I've had my 1996 JCB 525B Telehandler parked for a few weeks while I was waiting for the new set of tires and once I started it up I noticed there was a problem. The shuttle lever was stuck, meaning the machine moved nowhere. I didn't want to put too much force not to damage something. What could be the problem and why?

It might be a problem with the linkage being stuck or an issue with hydraulic pressure in the shuttle system. Start by checking the linkage movement and the fluid levels first.

First thing that comes to mind is the brake interlock system. On the older machines, the shuttle lever can lock up if the brake pedal isn't fully pressed down.. give it a good firm press and see if that releases it. It's a common safety feature. If that's not it, the next thing I'd look at is the control valve for the transmission. Since it's been sitting, a spool could have gotten a bit sticky inside the valve block, especially if the fluid is a bit older. Letting it run and warm up for a few minutes sometimes helps to free things up. A problem with the linkage is also plausible like the others here mentioned.. Maybe a bit of rust or a stone could have gotten wedged in there while it was parked up. Don't force it, but check the connections under the cab.

Don't force it... you'll risk damaging the transmission internals. Instead, check the linkage joints and pivot points under the cab; a little lubrication might revive movement. If that doesn't work, up next is pulling the control valve cover to check the spool isn't binding.

I think it might be a stuck shuttle valve or solenoid. When things sit for too long, dampness or dirt can jam things up. I'd take a look to see if anything's rusty or if there are any wiring problems.

I'm trying to get my dad's old JCB 3CX working again. It's been sitting for a while, and now the shuttle lever won't move. We pressed the brake hard, but that didn't fix it.

If the spool is stuck, is there a way to check or clean it without taking the whole valve block apart? And for the linkage under the cab, where should we look first? Thanks for the help!
